Old Work, New Day
Fine art photography exhibit opening, this weekend on Saturday March 21st, from 7-10pm at Studio Chavarria, located on 84 W. Walnut St., Asheville, NC. The show speaks of using existing resources to produce or create something new, reverting to labor over luxury to save energy and produce less waste, & choosing collaboration over competition. These are not my ideas nor are they new but I believe they are worth addressing now, creating an environment to discuss how to incorporate them in our everyday lives. Will feature scrolls and prints from Vietnam: more than war series and other work, taken from a 5 year retrospective, to be projected digitally onto the Apartment building where studio is located. Hope to see you there! Labels: art and photography, art show, digital photography, entertainment, event, exhibition, fine art, fine art photography, monty tran, opening, show
Ago & Zach
"Take away all the material things that I have left...but leave me my dog." That is what Zach said today as we were hanging out with Ago, his dog of 10 years. After a series of surgery and treatment, Ago is not expected to live past the end of the week. Zach, having few photos of them together, asked me to make some of them today...one shown above. 5 Year Retrospective
So it has been a while since I have last posted, lots of changes going on, and it feels like the first one all over again. So I'm rolling with the same approach, one word after another, without pause and with hope and determination, that consistent postings will follow. After returning from a 2 month stint based in Brooklyn, NY, I have come full circle back to my home studio after moving out of the downtown location. So I painted the interior of my home... my office/digital darkroom middle grey, the main area bright white to act as a gallery space, and the bathroom red. Realizing that this year marks the 5 year anniversary of my decision to become a travel photographer (having been shooting for 9 years, starting in the darkroom [as a generalist]), leaving for Australia in early February 2004 and picking up my first laptop and digital slr just days before, I set out to shoot everyday and bring nothing back from the trip other than images and the experience (with the exception of a Boulder Opal from Lighting Ridge). Fortunately, I did just that and linked up with an Australian based stock agency called dishonline (go to Artist drop-down menu and select Jackson to see images). I have put together an edit (found on portfolio page in galleries [bottom-left button]) from that 3 month journey that took me around the eastern half of Australia, solidifying my dreams and lending direction in becoming a working photographer, traveling to lands and meeting people previously unfamiliar. From here, I will continue to make edits of work and upload galleries from that point to now, including fine art series, editorial stories, and more travel collections...stay tuned and thanks for taking time to see!
